The IEC is constituted as per ICMR and CDSCO guidelines and includes:

- Legal expert
- Social scientist
- Lay person

Functions
- Review of research protocols
- Monitoring of ongoing research
- Review of adverse events
- Issuance of ethical clearance certificates
